Five Basic Web Design Tips
|
The web site should be easy on the eyes. Text should not be too small and it's important
to keep in mind that viewers of the site will be using many different sizes of resolution; try
to stay in the middle ground. The main page should not be too cluttered to avoid an overwhelming first
impression.
-
The entire web site should be easy to navigate with buttons/links/tabs
either at the top or the bottom of the page. This site uses links at the bottom of the page
("Home", "About", "Contact", etc.)
-
The domain name for your web site should be easy to remember. (Domain = the URL address of the main page)
For example, everyone can remember www.yahoo.com or www.google.com. Think about keeping it simple.
-
A well designed web site will keep the layout and basic design consistent on all pages. Visitors will expect
to find components that appear on multiple pages to be located in the same places throughout the site.
-
All pages contained on the site should be quick to load. Visitors do not like to wait for large image files to display.
Keep your image file sizes as small as possible; investigate using compression technology such as .JPG/.JPEG, .GIF, and .PNG formats.
